Children of Heaven (1997)
90 mins| +13, Persian, with Arabic subtitles| Iran
Director: Majid Majidi
The A.M. Qattan Foundation Invites you to attend the screening of “Children of Heaven” at the Foundation's Building in Al-Tira, Ramallah, at 6:00 p.m.
This screening is open to the family, with the recommended age of children being 13 and older.
Shot mostly in the style of a documentary and featuring a cast of young, non-professional actors, Children of Heaven tells the deceptively simple story of a brother and sister who suddenly find themselves mulling a moreadult, philosophical quandary: material possession versus spiritual wealth.
The film’s machinations are put into motion when Ali accidently loses the only pair of shoes his little sister, Zahra, owns. Attempting to hide the bad news from their poor father and frail mother, they devise a scheme to share Ali’s sneakers until they can find a new pair of shoes.
Filmed in secret to capture a true portrait of Tehran’s less-traveled haunts without the glare of the authorities, Children of Heaven is a neorealist fable that avoids easy sentimentality.
This screening is part of the Foundation’s 2019 weekly film programme. organised in collaboration with Cimatheque - Alternative Film Centre in Cairo.
