The A.M. Qattan Foundation Invites you to attend the screening of I was born,But… by the Japanese director Yasujirō Ozu at the Foundation's Building in Al-Tira, Ramallah, at 6:00 p.m.
One of the few films to have survived from Japan’s silent era, and also one of Yasujirō Ozu’s most beloved works, I Was Born, but... is a humourous portrait of one family’s financial and psychological troubles. Two young brothers battle school bullies and obnoxious teachers as part of their daily, tormented ritual; their lives, however, come to a screeching halt when they suddenly comprehend their father’s lower social status.
Told from the viewpoint of one of the film’s scrappy young protagonists, I Was Born, but... is a poignant evocation of tumultuous childhood and an excellent entry point to Ozu’s cinematic body of work.
This screening is part of the Foundation’s 2019 weekly film programme. organised in collaboration with Cimatheque - Alternative Film Centre in Cairo.
